Center, the building adjacent to the The Joan B. Kroc
Institute for Peace & Justice where the banquet will take place. Go to the Registration Table and give the
check-in person your name and your engineering society affiliation. You will be
given one beverage ticket, a menu ticket indicating your reservation menu
choice and table number. Additional beverage (soft drink, beer or
wine) tickets are available for $5 each upon check-in, prior to 7:15 pm.

A note on reservations:
The NEW SD Awards Banquet is organized by sponsor tables of
eight. Sponsors include local SDCEC society sponsors, schools & others, and
company/corporate sponsors. Each organization pledges and pays for at least one
table of 8 (see prices below) and is recognized in the banquet program as a
banquet patron. Table sponsors are encouraged to sponsor one or more of their
student members. Reservations beyond the table size of 8 are charged at the
equivalent per person rate. Partial tables will be combined with other partials
(& closely located) to the parent table(s). Societies, Universities, and
Companies may elect to subsidize a portion of or all of the cost of each
reservation. Please check with your
representative to determine the cost to you.
Each table patron must supply a sponsor contact (Table Captain). Individuals
will provide reservation information (name & entree selection) and payment
for their seats. The Table Captain or other society contact will provide the
total payment and reservation data (names, meal choices) to the banquet
reservation coordinator, Ken Discenza, NEW SD Finance

Call for Nominations:
The National Engineers Week (NEW)-San Diego County Engineering Council (SDCEC) Planning Committee is seeking nominations for SDCEC awards: 1) Outstanding Engineer Award, 2) Outstanding Engineering Educator Award, 3) Outstanding Engineering Project Award, 4) Dr. Thomas Avolt Kanneman Outstanding Service Award and 5) SDCEC/Co-sponsored Outstanding Engineering Project awards (e.g. Outstanding IEEE Project Award) to be presented at the National Engineers Week Banquet on February 25, 2011, 6pm-9:30pm at the Joan Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice on the University of San Diego Campus.
These awards are intended to recognize recent contributions to engineering within San Diego County, and are not intended for life-time contributions but for contributions typically within the past three to five (max) years. Prior contributions (over five years) are appropriate for the general background but not the primary basis for the current year award.
Award criteria (and nomination information formats which follow) are described below.
Deadline for all nominations:
The nomination priority deadline for SDCEC awards is December 31, 2010, and for SDCEC/Co-sponsored awards is January 10, 2011. Nominations are closed after these dates. Nominations are reviewed and initially selected by the NEW SD Awards Committee with award recommendations submitted to the full NEW SD Planning Committee for adoption. Nominations must be post marked or emailed by: above indicated deadlines.

ENGINEER AWARD:
The Outstanding Engineer award recognizes a practicing engineer who has made recent (last three to five years) outstanding contributions to the field of engineering. To be eligible, a candidate must:
1) hold a BS, MS, or Ph.D. in an engineering field or be a licensed professional engineer
2) be primarily employed as a practicing engineer (outstanding engineers primarily involved in education are not qualified for this award but may be qualified for a different award)
3) be a resident of
4) agree to accept the award in person at the annual National Engineers Week Banquet (unless special exceptions are approved in advance which would provide for a representative to accept the award in person on behalf of the awardee).

OUTSTANDING
ENGINEERING EDUCATOR AWARD:
The Outstanding Engineering Educator award recognizes an engineer who has made who has made recent (last three to five years) outstanding contributions to the field of engineering education as a faculty member in an ABET accredited engineering program. To be eligible, a candidate must:
1) hold a BS, MS, or Ph.D. in an engineering field or be a licensed professional engineer
2) be primarily employed in a faculty position in an ABET accredited engineering program (adjunct or part-time faculty do not qualify for this award but may be qualified for a different award).
3) be a resident of

Outstanding Co-Sponsored Engineering Project: In addition to the typical standard four NEW Awards listed above, additional project oriented awards (e.g. Outstanding EE Project) areas may be proposed and awarded jointly by the NEW Awards Committee and a sponsoring San Diego (SD) Society. Co-sponsored project award proposals are submitted by the sponsoring society, and reviewed for final approval by the NEW Awards Committee. The sponsoring NEW SD Society must fund ($200) the co-Sponsored Awards that are selected for presentation. The co-sponsored award will be published with the other standard four NEW awards in the Awards Banquet Program.
The co-sponsored project package, due no later than January 3, 2010, should include:
1) an award description in a pertinent format similar to the one used below to describe the Outstanding Engineering Project award.
2) nomination package(s) in a pertinent format similar to the Outstanding Engineering Project nomination format.
3) $200 for plaques and dinners if award is approved (due no later than January 11, 2010).
